Temple Beth Torah

President’s Welcome

Chris Brumbach – 5783-5784

Welcome to the Temple Beth Torah website.  I am so proud to be the President of Temple Beth Torah and want to share with you who we are, what our congregation values, and some of the exciting programs that are available at Temple Beth Torah (TBT).

Following the TBT  50th Anniversary celebration and fund-raising this past year, many beautification projects were completed: interior and exterior painting, new blinds in the sanctuary, new carpeting in the school wing and new furniture in the foyer.   A special piece of mosaic art will be installed in the foyer in honor of our Founders.  We are so proud of the improvements that were made and are so grateful to our members for contributing so generously to the 50th Anniversary fund-raiser!  We take pride in having provided a Jewish home to our communities for the last 50 years.  Thank you!

So, who are we? We are a generous, welcoming Conservative congregation, led by Rabbi Mimi Micner who is a Hebrew College graduate.  She has been our spiritual, educational, pastoral and social justice leader for the past three years.  Our congregants gather enthusiastically for her adult education courses (on ZOOM), Torah study and for the Shir Shabbat (musical) services which she leads once every 6 weeks.

We are young families in “Torah Tots” and “Tots and Parents” programs, which are thriving under Rabbi Mimi’s guidance. We are women who love Sisterhood and all the activities that it offers.   We engage with social justice and tikkun olam projects and activities.  The current Social Justice and Caring Committees have participants who are working to change the world (one local project at a time) and are supporting our congregants in need through meals, companionship and transportation.  The Little Free Food Pantry meets the need for quick food items for individuals and families in our area.  All of these happen because we are a congregation that loves to “do”.  We welcome new members to join in that “doing”.

What does our congregation value? We value community.  We value connections between members, and we value Jewish tradition.  We value spiritual growth, and we are always striving to live a meaningful life both in the synagogue and in our everyday lives.  We know that because of this strong community value, everything we do at TBT should enable people to connect in a deeper way so that each person gains joy, a deeper understanding of others, and a desire to help those who may need our help.  Our goal is to provide engaging activities that will attract the involvement of all members at TBT, regardless of age.  The result will be spiritually lifted, connected members who find comfort within the TBT community.

What are we looking forward to in 5784?  There will be three Friday night TBT-sponsored Shabbat dinners, preceded by a Children’s Shabbat service and followed by the regular Kabbalat Shabbat Service.   There will be our usual raucous Purim Megillah party; a concert in March by the well-known Klezmer-Blue Grass group Jacobs’ Ladder.  The religious school will flourish under the tutelage of our seasoned teachers and our new school principal, Jane Kohuth.  Students will participate and lead services on Shabbat.  There will be several events for fund-raising this year.  Saturday morning Torah Study will continue as will Friday evening and Saturday services in person and on ZOOM.  And, of course, families will celebrate their children’s B’nai Mitzvot here in our sanctuary.  Stay tuned!

Welcome to Temple Beth Torah.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me or Rabbi Mimi Micner directly.
