Adult Education Programs

Temple Beth Torah has a series of very active Adult Education programs. In collaboration with the Adult Learning Collaborative of Combined Jewish Philanthropies, we have had world renowned teachers of Jewish culture, history and Torah for lectures and short-term courses at the Temple. These have included:
  • "The Middle East Conflict in Western Media" with Professor Richard Landes

  • "Entering the Secret Garden: An Introduction to Kabbalah" with Or Rose

  • "Unmasking Esther" with Dr. Bonna Haberman

  • "Jewish Life in America" with Jonathan Sarno

  • "Jewish Families and Mixed Marriage" with Sylvia Barack Fishman

  • "Dreams in Torah" with Rabbi Alan Ullman
Temple Beth Torah's Rabbi Kideckel, offers ongoing courses covering many aspects of Jewish study.
  • Hebrew Reading I [one year]: This course introduces the Hebrew alef-bet and teaches Hebrew phonics with the goal of reading Hebrew.

  • Hebrew II [one year] This first half of this course reinforces Hebrew reading skills with emphasis on the Prayer Book. The Friday evening prayers are taught with their history, ritual, and keyword vocabulary. The second part of this course teaches Shabbat morning prayers with key vocabulary, ritual observance and practice. This background prepares an adult to begin an optional Bar/Bat Mitzvah program where he/she can study individual Torah and Haftorah prayers and readings with cantillation.

  • Jewish Law and Ritual This a two year course that covers Jewish Holidays, Jewish Life Cycles, Rituals, History and Jewish laws and customs.
